Explore the Inca Quarry, where the Inca mined and shaped the massive stones that make up the Ollantaytambo fortress. You will also see the Inca ruins known as Inti Punku, which means Sun Gate in Quechua, on a guided hike through the Peruvian mountains. During the hike, you will also enjoy the amazing view of the Veronica Mountain glacier and the famous  Sacred Valley of the Inca!

Inti Punku is a small Inca construction, at the top of a 3,900-meter hill overlooking Ollantaytambo. On this scenic hike, you will enjoy the views of the Urubamba River, the Ollantaytambo Archeological Site and stunning views of Mountain Veronica.

Your tour will begin at 7:00AM, with private transportation from Veronica View Hotel or any other hotel in Ollantaytambo. After a short drive to the trailhead, we start to hike up for 3 hours to the Sun Gate. Along the way you will pass through the Inca Quarry, where the Incas mined and shaped the massive stones that make up the Ollantaytambo fortress.  Once at the Sun Gate, you will enjoy the amazing view of snow-capped  mountains, especially the spectacular Veronica Mt. WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?

The weather is very unpredictable and difficult to foresee. We recommend that you always dress in layers as that makes it easier to adjust to the rapidly changing weather patterns.

WHAT ABOUT ALTITUDE SICKNESS?

For some visitors, the first few hours in Cusco can be summarized as follows: shortness of breath, a discomfort in the body, dizziness, headaches, stomachaches and even vomiting. As great connoisseurs of natural medicine, the Incas used coca leaves to counteract soroche (Quechua word for high-altitude sickness).

The Veronica View Hotel, and all of the Sacred Valley, are at a lower altitude than Cusco. If you are concerned about the altitude of Cusco, you may want to spend a few days in the Sacred Valley on arrival.

If you’re happy with the services provided, a tip – though not compulsory – is appreciated.
