Our mountain bike tour is a unique and fun way to discover high Andean Quechua speaking communities. On this bike ride, you will be able to travel across the beautiful Patacancha Valley, with the opportunity to stop at traditional weaving communities in the villages of Huilloq and Patacancha on your way down to Ollantaytambo. Which still continue to follow ancient cultural practices, very little has changed since Inca times.
***Patacancha and Huilloq, ancient indigenous communities, are beautiful examples of ancestral Andean living. Their inhabitants still wear traditional, colorful clothing and follow the same practices as their ancestors. These scenic and amazing routes take you to the most rugged Andean landscapes. You will experience wild Andean mountains and an authentic way to explore Inca origins.
We start from the Veronica View Hotel at 8:00 am, and head out in our private vehicle. We then drive up to the Yanamayo Pass at 4,350 m/14,721 ft. – literally sky high! There are stunning views – Inca terraces, waterfalls, and fields still farmed the traditional Andean way. Enjoy these views, as we ascend over 1500 meters from Ollantaytambo. The communities along the valley are known for their traditional culture, weaving and unique lifestyle. This drive takes about an hour.
Upon arriving at the Yanamayo Pass, we will begin unloading the bikes while you have time to take photos and enjoy the amazing views of the valleys below and glaciers above.
From here, gear up for a thrilling downhill mountain bike ride through the Patacancha valley, back to Ollantaytambo. The ride will be led by one of our experienced, multilingual guides. It includes a full-suspension mountain bike with hydraulic disc brakes, helmet, full-fingered gloves, and optional knee/shin pads. We will have plenty of time and opportunity to take photos, visit a secluded waterfall, and see several Inca archeological sites.
We end the tour in Ollantaytambo, whereby we take you back to Veronica View Hotel or any other hotel in Ollantaytambo. Transportation to Cusco will incur an extra fee.
